I went exploring Flume Creek with my friend Bill this morning. First we stopped by one of my favoorite spots, but we met with bad news in two ways. First, there were already fishermen there ahead of us, even at 6:00 AM. And the river was very flooded, so other spots nearby were not fishable.
We headed upstream several miles and tried again. The water level was still very high, and the marshes surrounding the stream were extra wet. But the creek was fishable. We waded several stretches, and I caught three small brook trout.
Flume Creek can be a great place to catch brookies. Sometimes beaver dams create temporary ponds where the trout really pile up. I did see a beaver this morning, but no beaver dams.
It wasn’t the most productive trip, but still it was nice to be out enjoying the second say of the regular season.
